Background:
The idea to form a Lodge originated from discussions in 1972 between W Bro Mervyn Walters, Bro Cyril Davison and Bro Len Wilkes who regularly attended the Kindred Lodges meetings when held in association with the Gilwell Reunion. It was felt that there should be a 'Scout Lodge' to cater for the East Midlands.

The firet preliminary meeting was held on 21 May 1975 under the chairmanship of W Bro Walters, attended by eight brethren, when it was agreed in principle to attempt to form a Lodge. By November 1975, there were 15 prospective founders mainly with Scout Association connections but also two from the Boy's Brigade.

After many suggestions, it was decided that the Lodge name should be Compass. This illustrated the world-wide membership of both the Craft and Scouting, as well as a means of finding the way.

The Lodge was consecrated with 24 Founder Members on 29 March 1977 by the Provincial Grand Master for Leicestershire and Rutland, R W Bro Brig C B S Morley and was sponsored by Round Table Lodge 7762.

Although the Lodge is open to all associated with Youth Work, the Lodge Badge, designed by W Bro Wilkes, incorporates the Scout Badge as the North point.

The first Master of the Lodge was W Bro Mervyn Walters and the first Secretary was W Bro W Steele.

The Lodge has hosted four Festival Meetings of the Kindred Lodges Association (Great Queen Street 1982; Syston 1987; Leicester Provincial Hall 1999 and 2008).
Meeting place: Broad Street, Syston, Leicester LE7 1GH
